Its crazy to think about the advances in digital design that have - TopicsExpress

Its crazy to think about the advances in digital design that have happened in the relatively short time since I started doing it for a living. At my first job, we had *actual* bluelines, wax rollers, and a pegboard full of different styles of border tape. At my next job, I was manually taping together films because we didnt have an imagesetter that could produce art larger than 10x10. When I first started my current job, we had to know how to do manual traps, and were still fixing film with a correction pen. Now I can export a job as a PDF and drop it a digital press hotfolder and run a color-corrected proof in minutes. Even jobs that do go to a traditional offset press benefit from the amazing fact that I can send a PDF to a workflow, have it automatically trap, then have whats essentially a gigantic laser printer spit out an engraved plate within minutes. What Im getting at is that this T-square makes an awesome back-scratcher.
