Its hard to describe just how incredible The First Ever CPLV Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was. Between the 80+ degree sunny weather, the mix of generations, and the amazing speeches given by those inducting the honorees (and of course the honorees themselves) it was truly a special day. It started with catching up by the Poyntelle office as alums & their families arrived admist excitement for those who hadnt seen each other in quite a while. As the day got underway - we all headed down the long winding path behind the Rec Hall, passing by Junior Boys & the indoor gym that leads straight to the Poyntelle Waterfront. With not a cloud in the sky, and alums filling the benches, the first annual CPLV Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony was underway. Mark Newfield got us started with some welcoming words - before we watched as the first group of CPLV Alums were inducted. Tears were shed as the accomplishments, and impacts of those being inducted were read aloud. Jay Frankel, Samantha Fox, Stephanie Cusack, Mark Newfield & Julie Torregrosa did an incredible job of inducting (respectively) - Ethel Abrams, Rosie Gromadski-Bogard, Julie Steuerman Torregrosa, Paul & Ellen Schlank, & Michael Steuerman. The speeches was touching, meaningful, and captured just how much these individuals made a difference. Following the ceremony - and a loud Kiefa - we all headed to the Poyntelle Dining Hall (still new to many of us) for a delicious BBQ lunch. The camp food was a lot different for many of the alums, who had yet to experience the new cuisine CPLV has to offer. Burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, and a bunch of sides were scarfed down as a slideshow of pictures played on the big screen. After lunch, we all headed over to Lewis Village for the afternoon - some by foot & some by car - for an All Camp Free Play. Some alums headed to A&C, while others just wanted to walk through the Village once again to see if their shacks were still there, or if their names were still in the bathhouse. By mid-afternoon, all alumni had made their way to the LV waterfront where they hung out on the docks, took out boats, jumped in Black Water, & enjoyed some snack. We really couldnt have asked for a better day. To see faces that had been in CPLV from the 50s all the way to the 2000s - along with some of their children & grandchildren, was truly spectacular. You may be away from camp for years, but once you step foot on the grounds, so many memories come flooding back. This place has really impacted so many of our lives, it was so great to be back. This was the first, of what we want to become, an annual alumni tradition. Their are 6 names in the CPLV Hall of Fame. Before we know it, there will be 60. Hopefully those who couldnt make it this year, will join us next year & in years to come as we continue to honor those who made a difference both inside & outside of CPLV.
