Its likely that you may not remember, or even know, 90s alternative rock band Tripping Daisy. It is even more likely that you wont recognize singer Tim DeLaughter - the singer of choral rock band The Polyphonic Spree. My teenage self was deeply immersed in 90s alternative culture by the time Tripping Daisy released their breakthrough album, I Am An Elastic Firecracker, in 1995. I was 14 and spent much of my time listening to music. CDs were finally popular but cassettes hadnt yet given up. And dammit, I owned this album on cassette (and still do, if that tells you anything about my obsession with music). So anyway, Tripping Daisy was pretty much like no other band Id ever heard and honestly that still rings true. A song like I Got A Girl has a little more pop in its step but DeLaughters voice is a unique one. Not only that, as a teenage girl I could not resist his boyish good looks. And the opportunity to own music with swearing - which was pretty much a regular at this point but only with promises to my mom that it didnt have swearing. Headphones were my best friend. Thanks to MTV, I Got a Girl was Tripping Daisys breakthrough song. Its a kooky tune with a strange video - it definitely fit in with the times. ~Mother Mayhem #TrippingDaisy #IGotAGirl #TimDeLaughter
