Its lunch hour but Im still full from the big bread this morning. The apfeltasche (apple tart) is still untouched. Already two different people have written to my inbox and asked the same question: How much is the limit for carrying cash outside of the country? First of all, I dont know the exact answer. (because I dont have enough money to reach that limit anyway.. LOL) but in the 1990s when I moved to America, and during the financial crisis, it was set at RM10,000. Now I think (not sure) it is USD10,000. But even if youre super rich, you shouldnt be carrying this kind of money around through airports. Even if you dont get pickpocketed you will definitely raise flags. Only corrupted politicians, money launderers and drug dealers carry this amount of cash. You will not impress the customs officers, instead youre definitely asking to be checked inside out. Consider instead to book and pay everything in advance before traveling, and apply for one of those platinum/black cards or whatever prestige cards that Malaysian banks love to offer so people can show off.
