Its official: Hawk Mountain placed second in the country in the 10 Best Birding Destinations, and congratulations to our friends at Magee Marsh, Ohio, who grabbed the number one slot! As Kenn Kaufman said earlier this week, its notable that our two sites not only have great birding, but also great organizations (Black Swamp Bird Observatory for Magee and Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association) that fully embrace the connection between birding and conservation. BSBO and HMSA both actively promote birding, not just to serious birders, but to the general public, business owners, chambers of commerce, local politicians, and anyone who might be able to influence local conservation decisions. They understand the value of building public support for bird conservation. Well put, Kenn, and we thank you all of our FB friends for helping spread our passion for looking skyward and for protecting raptors worldwide.
