Its pathetic that rather than listening to the American peoples outrage at NSA surveillance, it took the revelation by the international community that we were tapping foreign leaders phones for congress to finally do something about the seemingly unlimited power theyve given over in the name of national security. The NSA has been secretly collecting massive amounts of Americans private data with often little or no criminal evidence to justify it. Laws prohibit companies Google and Facebook from reporting how much information they hand over to our government. Preventing terrorism does not require blanket data mining of an entire nations or, (in this case) the worlds citizens, and it appears that our tax dollars fund these agencies adequately enough to do their jobs without violating fourth amendment. The USA FREEDOM Act appears to curtail some of the excess power being abused by intelligence agencies and their contractors. This wont solve the problem entirely, the establishment is going to fight tooth and nail to continue spying on us, but its a step in the right direction.
