Its pretty much known that the kids and I really want a dog. We have been borderline harassing Ezra about it for the past few months. The boys and I even worked hard this fall to make our back yard ready. Ezra doesnt make long term commitments without thinking on them heavily, and knowing that it is a reasonable or beneficial decision- a quality I fully appreciate (he chose an exceptional wife). The next phase in this seriously long decision making process is researching what kind of dog would be a good fit for our family, when the time comes. INPUT, PLEASE! I prefer a medium sized dog- one I can take for a jog and feel like it has the potential to protect. Good with kids. Short hair preferred, but not a deal breaker. No fluffy dogs, or dogs native to snowy areas. Not a lab. Mixed breed preferred. I want the dog as a puppy, so I can train it. What are your breed recommendations? Pros? Cons? Warnings? Personal experiences?
