Its sad to see what the body modification lifestyle has become. Gone are the days when the act of giving and receiving a tat or piercing generated a bond between two people that may have never even met before. Gone are the feeling of togetherness that came from being around others with ink. The friendships that blossomed from the community of piercing collectors. Now its all just another service. The artist viewed as another fast food cashier. The sight of someones mods jus a passing glance not worthy of interest. Gone is the idea of our professionals being brethren, even those in close competition. Now we have an over abundance of license holders and a host of kitchen magicians, all of whom would rather bicker and talk shit than actually join efforts and lift up our lifestyle, our career, our livelihood. Goodbye to the times when our artists where known for their skill and style. Now we are only considered by our price and willingness to offer instant gratification. There was once a time when we were special, and now we are but another marketing demographic, a t-shirt logo, an as seen on TV gimmick. In our rush to be accepted we forgot to be authentic. In our demand to be equal we agreed to blend in. The magic faded into the mist because we all wanted them to pay attention to the man behind d the curtain, and now nobody is paying attention to the show that he puts on. It brings sorrow to my heart. I long for a spark, for that person that comes to me full of wonder and excitement, ready to take a leap into the unknown. Seeking that adventure, weak in the knees with anticipation. I hope one day we will realize what we have given up on, what we traded in for a chance to come out of the shadows.
