Its said to say but Ukraine is actually not a name of a country, - TopicsExpress

Its said to say but Ukraine is actually not a name of a country, its its geografical position. In Russian Ukraine is written Украниа, where У = U and means by and краина = kraine obviously and means edge. It doesnt directly mean edge, the correct word for edge is край but окраина means outskirts or edge respectively. So the word Ukraine means actually on the edge or on the outskirts and if you look at the history of Ukraine, youll understand it even better since this country had been on the outskirts of Rus, then of the Russian Empire, then of the Austro-Hungary, then the USSR. Now it wants to be on the outskirts of the EU. Its said because this is probably the only country in the world that doesnt have a real name, if you look even at French Guyana (Guyane Francaise), its French but its GUYANA. It still has its identification. So whenever I personally hear The Great Ukraine I wonder what Great Ukraine?
