Its that time of year again where everyone is going away on holiday and leaving the dog with a dog sitter/kennels. If you have a breed that needs regular maintenance to ensure it doesnt get matted, PLEASE ensure you choose a sitter/kennels that is prepared to take that task on. We (Groomers) hear so often that: The dog has been to the sitters so is in a bit of a mess, but he/she had so much fun Unfortunately we are then seen as the bad person because we either have to spend time dematting you dog (if possible) - which costs you (the owner) more. Or if it is too far gone we have to clip off short (much to the owners horror). Even in a couple of weeks this CAN happen, and I (along with countless other groomers), have seen sores underneath matting. Our primary job as a Groomer is to bath/dry/style your dog. Dematting is not part of a normal groom and as such is not included in the normal price Either way the groomer is in a lose lose situation, with dog and owner. Looking after the coat of your dog is JUST AS IMPORTANT as ensuring it has adequate shelter food and water. Unfortunately it always seems to be the bit thats missed. If your dog sitter really cant manage the coat, please arrange (as many of my clients do) for your dog to come in weekly whilst you are away for a bath and brush
