Its the fascination with guns that is the oddity in this country! But, that said, we must not forget that the ease with which guns are made available and the fact that the gun culture is glorified and made to believe to be a necessity... that is the real culprit... the NRA and many other organizations use the most astute and the most media unsavory methods to proclaim the need for guns... in spite of the fact that all evidence points to the need for sensible gun controls. When a woman like Coke Roberts says the debate is not going to be held, what she is saying is really a political statement and as such, these organizations concentrate on demonstrating that political statements are more important and more valid that any statement of fact or of purpose or of practical and necessary rule of law! This is the tragedy! When we insist on valuing the political statement more than a statement of principle or a statement that follows the principles of governance and the rule of law, the practical everyday kind of things that are needed to save lives... well... we all know that the political statement will win out. As a society we must therefor learn how to make sure that any such Machiavellian statement of political expediency not win out over common sense and common decency! There is no other country that values hunting and sporting as much as the United Stated of America and worships guns as much the the USA do! This country fakes it! It pretends that the right to own guns is for legitimate reasons... when we all know that it is simply a marketing enterprise that avails itself of a political statement that is viewed as a sure way to win by force at the expense of millions of lives! It must be condemned in no uncertain terms!
