Its unfair, and it hurts. Its really unfair. Those who call me out of touch, too American, a foreigner, black man in a white mask have gone too far. Yes maybe I do not understand the problems of this country and the African continent, but I wonder who does. Because I dont think even Jacob Zuma understands them, at least he doesnt seem so. Its fine Ill do exactly as some say - stay out of the arena they claim they know very well - politics. I wasnt being a politician, I was merely raising issues that should matter to every citizen who casts the vote at the ballot box. Were humans, somewhere somehow youll have to be biased, but I try not to. This year I wrote a short essay acknowledging Africas remarkable socioeconomic progress. I referenced TIME Magazine and The Economist. They both covered the continent extensively. Before that I had written an essay titled Be proudly South African. Just few weeks ago I shared a chart by The Economist that depicted Africas fastest growing economies. Even Lubabalo Ntsunguzi and Elijah Abura re-shared that chart. So describing me as hating Africa is too unfair. We all know that after getting independence from their former colonizers, many African countries descended into tyranny and civil wars. At that time the African Union did exist, it just didnt do anything. For some reasons we never know. But the argument of course is on how to deal with these issues. We all have visions for South Africa, although they differ. But nothing makes me foreign or out of touch with reality. I will step back. Why? Because Im a foreigner, too American, a Western spy, black man in a white mask etc. Its all unfair though, and most importantly, it demotivates me.
