Its with great sadness that I have to announce that we must cancel out concert at the Miroiterie on the 2nd of May. We almost never cancel concerts. We take our commitments very seriously. The walls opposite the Miroiterie bar collapsed injuring 3 people. Also, some very cowardly people tried to set fire to the Miroiterie. Really disgusting to hit someone when they are at their weakest. The Miroit is closed. One of the most important aspects of the Miroiterie was the way kids would go to their first DIY punk concert NORMAL and leave RADICALIZED. As an anarchist, I have been amazed by the amount of kids Ive met who said their eyes were opened to alternative ways of thinking by a simple concert at the Miroiterie. Incredible. And I dont mean kids became politicised in any boring political party way. Rather, it gives concert goers a glimpse of another way of seeing the world, another way of living and an altogether more hopeful future. This is much more important than anyone can imagine. Many movements over the years from Food Not Bombs to Immigrant rights, the Miroiterie has been at the heart of keeping resistance fresh and interesting in the stale wasteland of what is called the french left. Great stuff kids! Dont worry, people, no one is giving up! Paris is NOT tourist Disneyland. It is a real city with real people with real opinions and dreams A very sad day for culture in Paris (painting AND music). No other venue or squat in Paris can host so many concerts AND actually pay the bands real money so they can continue to fight the good fight. The Miroiterie was unique and vital to punk in France. No other venue has hosted (and paid honestly) so many foreign touring bands. Until we find and/or build a replacement for the Miroiterie, european punk bands will have to seriously consider skipping Paris on their tours. Tragic for us world culture hungry Parisians! French music for french people is sadly not enough! Other squats in the parisian region do fabulous benefit concerts for good causes but sadly do not pay bands (they dont believe in commerce) which means only parisian or rich bands can do it. (Weve done it!) No good for getting outside or foreign culture into our lives, Im afraid! I respect their philosophy BUT the Miroiterie, for all its faults (it wasnt perfect), had a very important and vital place in the Paris scene. ----------------------------------
