It’s Mabo Day, a time to recognise the work the late Eddie Mabo did in campaigning for Indigenous land rights. On 3 June 1992, the High Court of Australia decided that terra nullius should not have been applied to Australia. This historic decision led to the Australian Parliament passing the Native Title Act in 1993, which recognised the unique rights that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have to land and waters.
