It’s Thursday morning, which means that while CES technically lasts for two more days, most of the big news has hit, and the press conferences are done. The trends this year are automated homes, sensor laden gadgets, and curved televisions. So, so, so many curved televisions. There’s even one Yves Béhar (f-st.co/6ycZj9L) made for Samsung, though Samsung’s $100 million pledge to Internet of Things developers is their bigger news out of CES (f-st.co/hghHFYp). Some of the just-plain-neat news includes an LED light bulb that can shift its color and adapt to your sleeping patterns (f-st.co/By0wNG8). It wants to challenge the Phillips Hue. Makerbot revealed new 3-D printing materials, which can mimic natural materials like wood, metal, and stone (f-st.co/g5gxglZ), while a printer called Voxel8 can print complete electronics (f-st.co/0kgtCvs). Withings generated a lot of buzz with their $150 smartwatch that looks like a dumbwatch (f-st.co/iwyFiJ0). And there’s always weird stuff, too, like a strange mouse you control with your feet (f-st.co/LN0b4Pk) and a squishy-handed robot that can grip pretty much anything (f-st.co/Z20FWbC). Major car manufacturers showed up to CES, even though companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple didn’t. Notables in transportation: Mercedes showed off the first tempting self-driving car concept (f-st.co/l6TIARw), while a new smart bike helmet can warn drivers (f-st.co/P8J1tuH) who are about to hit a cyclist. There’s also a new electric scooter that collapses in 5 seconds (f-st.co/YNGWdbi). Of course, the biggest news of the whole event might have been Dish Network’s new Sling TV (f-st.co/rbtQilE subscription service that will allow you to stream channels like ESPN as easily as Netflix movies. With the big press conferences done, now is when journalists will hit the floor to dig up all of the weird and wild innovations that weren’t spotted in a press release.
