It’s a weird thing about facebook: it’s theoretically possible - TopicsExpress

It’s a weird thing about facebook: it’s theoretically possible for anybody you’ve ever known (who’s currently social-media savvy, at least) to attempt to reunite with you with a single click. Which sounds (to this writer) a lot like what it’s said Heaven might be like. Reunion. But that entails one’s facebook friends potentially becoming one-to-one facebook friends with other people from completely different parts of one’s life, which is naturally a daunting prospect. We change—we grow—but we also remember. So what if one could digitally introduce their grade-school crush from 45 years ago to Their newly facebooked 14-year-old? What great good might happen by that introduction? What potential treasure might be unlocked? Now, the befuddled The Wizard of Oz tells the Tin Man that his heart is more truly measured not by how much he loves, but how much he is loved by others. Little did the Wizard know so long ago, that the information age makes it possible for a heart to thus grow exponentially at the speed of light—many orders of magnitude faster than the most reconstructed Grinch. Is it possible that digitally-enabled viral friendship is what will save the human race?
