“It’s about time,” said Joe Dorman, Democratic nominee for governor, in response to the actions taken today by the Regents. “This pronouncement is long overdue on something that we already knew.” Earlier this spring, the Oklahoma Legislature overturned the adoption of Common Core standards with HB 3399, in spite of resistance by Governor Fallin and Superintendent Janet Barresi. Both Fallin and Barresi flip-flopped on these failed standards they worked in lock step to implement in 2011. This summer Oklahoma voters sent a clear message that it is time for a change in education policy when Barresi overwhelmingly lost her bid for re-election in the primary, and now Fallin is in a tight race with Dorman. “I’m very disappointed in the political games which have been played with Oklahoma’s children and our education system. Their inaction is a result of Fallin and Barresi pandering to Washington bureaucrats,” said Dorman. “It’s despicable how Fallin and Barresi have used our education system and our children as pawns in their game.
