It’s almost time for Art Gone Wild! This Saturday we will be folding origami art. Have you heard the story of one thousand cranes? According to a Japanese legend anybody who folds one thousand cranes will be granted a wish. But here is the twist! Instead of cranes we are planning on folding one thousand elephants as part of Dickerson Park Zoo’s ongoing “96 elephants” campaign. Together with the Zoo’s Education Department and the Springfield Regional Arts Council, our origami elephant project has already launched and we will continue toward our goal of folding 1,000 elephants to make a wish for a bright and safe future for elephants in the wild. To participate, you can come to our event and fold elephant origami with us, or do it at home with our instruction sheet! To make an elephant use 3”x 3” origami paper (or any thin, easily foldable paper). Origami elephants can be dropped off at the zoo anytime before August 1, 2014.
