It’s not too late to stop this from happening in our neighborhood! I am Mike Brodtman and I live at 2610 Magellan Drive and just like you I have an interest in protecting our neighborhood and our investments in our homes. It is not too late to stop the projects above from going up on Broadmoor Boulevard as planned and maintain the integrity of our neighborhood zoning. This area is currently an R-2 Residential Single Family attached zone and the builder has built these multi-family dwellings without proper zoning. So now they are trying to go after the fact and get the area rezoned to an R4 status which would allow for multi-family dwellings up to 65 feet high to go up. We can’t afford to let this happen to our neighborhood! There is a planning and zoning meeting tomorrow, Monday, December 1st at 5:30 pm at Monroe City Hall Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall in Monroe, LA. This is across from the Civic Center. I have talked with several city council members and members of planning and zoning and they have all said that we as a neighborhood all need to attend this meeting and let our voice be heard. I KNOW I WILL BE THERE! As well as several others who will speak on our behalf. See the attached letter which you may not have gotten as certain people are trying to sneak this by without you knowing. I know this is short notice which is how they are trying to manipulate the system by quietly passing this rezoning after they have already begun construction. Don’t let your voice go unheard! Invite you neighbors, friends and family and anyone who is concerned about protecting their property rights in the City of Monroe. Today it’s our neighborhood at risk that has been a single family residential zone for over 15 years and now has multi-family dwelling being constructed without proper zoning. Tomorrow it may be someone else’s if zoning restrictions are not enforced and investors are allowed to persuade government officials to change zoning restrictions without any regards to homeowners. As you are reading this I am circulating on Facebook and emailing to everyone that I can asking for support of residential zoning restrictions on I encourage everyone to do the same. This is the view now from my backyard. Had I known that zoning laws would not be enforced I would not have made the costly investment with my VA loan to enhance my backyard. Don’t let this happen to you! Please attend to represent the R2 zoning areas we currently have in place in Monroe and show that we do not want our neighborhoods converted to R4 Multifamily dwelling areas that would greatly decrease property values and affect the look of our neighborhoods. Show up now before a terrible and irreversible precedent is set for future zoning!! Planning and Zoning meeting tomorrow, Monday, December 1st at 5:30 pm at Monroe City Hall Council Chambers on the first floor of City Hall in Monroe, LA Attachments: 1. Notice of zoning hearing meeting for Dec 1st to hear zoning request for change and list of board members. 2. Copy of City of Monroe zoning ordinance. Current zoning is R2 and proposed is R4. 3. Copy of letter from neighborhood resident and committee head, Theresa Glavin. The letter is an overview of what is going on and has a copy of the City Ordinance that the planning and zoning “MUST” consider when determining the effects of rezoning. It is clear when reading these that the builder and investor are in clear violation of current zoning and yet continue to build with blatant disregard to all zoning regulations and you as a homeowner in this neighborhood. The buildings do not have a street separating them from our area like all other multi-family dwellings in Monroe and they are not at all representative of the upscale homes in our areas. So, get the word out and be at the meeting! Please call or email me for details or discussion on this matter.
