It’s out, in time for Hallowe’en! Dover Publications has just published a folio of piano works of three composers, Pauline Albert, Rube Bloom and Zez Confrey. I selected the pieces and wrote the modest introduction to the book. For those pianists who haven’t already busted their knuckles on 1920s novelties, this book provides an opportunity to own the sheet music to many numbers that have not been in print in fifty years or more, like Bloom’s “Savage In My Soul” and Alpert’s “Mindin’ The Baby.” Eight brilliant solos represent Zez Confrey, the folio’s best-known composer, including the popular “Kitten On The Keys.” store.doverpublications/0486490920.html
