It’s sometimes urged that modern world is more humane than ever - TopicsExpress

It’s sometimes urged that modern world is more humane than ever before, and in some ways it is. The paradox, however, is that we save more victims than ever before and slaughter more victims than ever before. The Rwandan bloodbath, for example was one of the fastest massacres in history, in approximately three month machete wielding Hutus ferociously slaughtered more than 800,000 Tutsis the clearest case of genocide since the Hitler’s extermination of the Jews and Gypsies. It was an equivalent of more than two World Trade Centre slaughters every single day for three one hundred days straight. Quite simply, it was the most devastating mass killings since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 which slaughtered a third of a million people and as with the Holocaust, it was carried out by men and women like us. To put the Rwandan genocide in perspective, let’s assume 800000 people were butchered in 90 days, it means each day 8888 died, 370 died per hour and 6.8 people died per minute. These guys were BEASTS!!!!! The Rwandan genocide is just part of a wider record of dark catalog of human evil in modern history and pales beside the worst of evils. The Ottoman massacre of one and a half million Armenians in WW1,The rape of Nanking, the Burma railway, The soviet Gulag, The Chinese Cultural revolution, The Cambodian killing field and the massacre in Bangladesh and Yugoslavia form an indelible stain on our human story and frame the twentieth Century as the most murderous Century in all History. #REFLECTINGONEVIL.
