It’s way early in the year so we thought we’d put you up on a new artist you can follow through 2015. Well he’s not exactly starting out; Tope has been heating up the underground hip hop scene in Oregon since 2011. He’s curtain-raised for some of the biggest names in the game including Macklemore and East Coast legends Nas and Talib Kweli. Now he’s dropped a follow up to his widely acclaimed 2013 EP ‘Trouble Man’ and it’s what’s made me a Tope believer from now on. The 12 tracks that make up the ‘Broke Boy Syndrome‘ are all well conceived, packed with positivity and delivered with Bruce Lee-type precision. By the time you get to ‘BBS’ you’ll be out cold. ‘Oh Sh!t’ is a single off this album, and colorful as this video is, it’s the Portland MC’s wordplay which will get your eyebrows up. Which is not to say the track, which features touches from DJ Celsius, is anything below average.
