Ive always had the aspects of Peters interactions with Yeshua leave me with the impression that Peter was an ambitious kid, quick to respond, sharp as hell, I wonder what his thoughts were like. I wonder how much they became geared to anticipating the manifold trajectories of Yeshuas teachings. Like when they reasoned amongst themselves about Beware the leaven of the Pharisees, I can imagine Peter shaking his head arms folded saying, Theres more to it. I can imagine his growing love for his Friend overtaking him silently, passionately, seemingly ready to die in his human loyalty. I can feel the slam when he knew He wasnt using a metaphor about getting killed as they neared His time. Have you ever noticed that Peters monumental revelation which was embraced by Yeshua (and probably came out Peters mouth as fast as it hit his being) You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God! Maybe a day or a week of basking in the afterglow, savoring the memory of his ejaculatory response. I bet he never saw it coming. He had determined that He cant die, not now. This all was just getting started, remember on THIS rock... So we cant quote Peter verbatim because it says he took Yeshua aside but maybe he was like, Aw, hell no! Not on my watch! No sweat bro we got this shit all worked out. ...the silence of a fraction of a second that spans an eternity, a rush of wind before the body hits the ground... Mat 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Mat 16:24 ¶ Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Mat 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Peters face became Yeshuas next platform for a sermon. Star pupil to Satan in under a minute. If I was Peter I would have been pissed, and broke all to hell on the inside. Glad its not the end of the story.
