Ive been out looking for places for Generation Gap to play; Ive hit about ten places so far. Each has said that they no longer plan to have live music in their establishment: the reason: ASCAP and BMI are contacting every restaurant, bar, club, coffee house that has ANY music and trying to extort...and that is the best word to use...from them because any music is being played; whether by musicians, CDs, radio or anything else. They are telling propriatores that even if they already own the CDs, their customers are being exposed to the music and therefore they have to pay again for it. This is being said about radio (except SIRIS, XM, Pandora and other online stations). If you are a musician and you cant find much work this year, you can thank them for it. This is all because of copyright laws that were written in 1918 and the 1940s. These need to be changed and brought into the 21st Century. If, as a musician you agree with me, contact me; I have the name of one of the Congressional Representatives that sit on the Committee for Licencing and Copyright for the House. I intend to write her; if enough people write her, perhaps we can get the law re-examined and changed to give musicians playing in small venues more opportunities to play. LikeLike · · Share
