Ive been playing pool/billiards for 40 plus years, and I’ve been - TopicsExpress

Ive been playing pool/billiards for 40 plus years, and I’ve been playing a little better lately. Recently, a couple people asked me how, with being 60+ years old, my game is getting better? So, here is what I came up with: 1. Twenty five years ago, I had elbow surgery, as a result, my arm shakes while stroking my cue. 3 years ago, I had surgery on the right knee, a year ago surgery on my left knee and 3 months ago full knee replacement on my left knee. Before all those knee operations, my legs were very strong and steady but I still had the arm shake. Since the knee operations, my knees now shake and are in sync with the shake in my arm which aligns my aim better. I think my legs shake in a zig when my arm shakes on the zag counteracting poor result of the shaking arm. 2. As I got older my hearing and eye sight has gotten worse. This eliminates distractions which every pool player has, from time to time, blamed their poor play on. I’m not as distracted by pretty girls walking by (at least I hope that’s only from bad eye sight and not lack of interest) and a fight can break out across the room and I don’t hear or see it. 3. My memory is also getting worse. I used to make the same mistakes over and over, most were poor decisions in patterns. Since my memory isn’t so sharp, I forgot all those things I normally did wrong and do things different now. 4. I also fall asleep easier. Between matches and sometimes during matches with slow players, I fall asleep in my chair, it works out like power napping, sometimes several times during a match. This results in me being refreshed and alert most of the time as opposed to trying to stay awake 18 to 20 hours during the tournaments and being too exhausted to play. 5. As a result of falling asleep during matches, my snoring distracts my younger opponents (this is also known as sharking). This could potentially put me in danger of being beat up, but I have Medicare so it’s no big deal. 6. My expenses for tournaments have come down. I get AARP discounts on hotel rooms and senior citizen discounts on meals. This results in less pressure to perform well to recoup my expenses. Summary, Like women and wine, pool players get better with age...
