Ive been redoing my kitchen. I love my house, but have never liked the dark kitchen cabinets and just accepted for the last five + years that it is what it is. Not so now. While it will still be a while before its completed, heres a little preview of whats going on with a before and after close up. Chalk paint is amazing! I knew the look I wanted but couldnt find a tutorial teaching how to get the right effect, so I had to come up with my own technique through trial and error. Result; I have the cabinets I have dreamed of having since the early 90s. Never even dreamed it was possible with these cabinets in this house because they were so dark! For anyone wanting to change, I highly recommend it! With the exception of washing everything down with a little hot water and liquid Dawn, there is zero prep work; no sanding, stripping, priming, etc... Chalk paint typically gives a distressed finish, but I wanted a combination of distressed and white washed look, where the beauty of the woods grain subtly comes through, yet its not raw or stained looking. The pictures do this no true justice. The colors coming through in the grain are stunning, and Ive added some distressing effects, particularly around the edges. Sorry for going on so, but Im pretty excited.
