Ive been staying mum on this topic so far, but I just read this and had to share it, because of a recent personal experience. As much as it *shouldnt* be this way, this kind of thing never happened when I was heavier. I was generally left alone and just went about my business. But since losing weight and trying to dress for my new body, I hear men mutter under their breath, rev their engines and even stalk me around the Kmart. You may be the nicest guy on the planet, but we cant tell the difference. Women shouldnt HAVE to be conditioned to fear all men, but it just happens. Someone in this article puts it so well: UFAIR NOT ALL MEN! Imaging a bowl of m&ms. 10% of them are poisoned. go ahead. eat a handful. Not all M&Ms are poison. And its true because after youve gotten a taste of that poison, you fear it for the rest of your life, even if the M&Ms say no poison inside right there on the bag. Yes we know all men arent rapist, this discussions isnt ABOUT men who *arent the problem,* Its about women who live in fear on a daily basis because our patriarchal & misogynistic society has shown us we need to be. Its not about men at all. We shouldnt have to walk holding our mace or keys as a makeshift weapon. Ill take my soapbox and go home now.
