Ive been taking a little flack again about not giving Wren a sibling from well-meaning people who have taken an over-bearing interest in our parenting and fertility. Id like to just mention, again, the many studies that discuss how successful and well-adjusted only children tend to be, and here are some examples of only children who did just fine: Alan Greenspan, Al Pacino, Ansel Adams, Betty White, Carol Burnett, Condoleeza Rice, Eleanor Roosevelt, Daniel Radcliffe, FDR, and Isaac Newton. Only children can be well-adjusted and children with siblings can be assholes. Im just going to do my best to parent my child with love and wisdom. Am I going to spoil her? You betcha! Do parents with more than one child spoil their kids? Certainly! And after I spoil her, Im going to teach her to spoil others and share and be generous and kind, and I hope you do the same with your kid(s). So, you know, thanks for your concern, but well be just fine.
