Ive been told that in Italy, if you have one small child, you will be swarmed by mammas and nonnas coming around to coo and pet your child, like little girls clustering around a basket of kittens. The same thing will happen if you have two. But if you have three, you will get only clucks and disapproving stares, at best. These same mammas and nonnas will suddenly turn into Greenpeace activists and, being Italian, will not hesitate to lecture you, right on the street or on a bus, about the evils of bringing too many people into the world... there are people starving dont you know. It beggars the imagination to try to grasp the power of a propaganda machine that did that to the Italians. My response is, 1.3, people, 1.3.
