Ive been trying to renew my carnal mind for years. Today I realized what the renewing of the mind is: The renewing of the mind by The Holy Spirit is not something that happens in the carnal mind. It is to go from the carnal mind to the mind of Christ. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (Romans 8:6, 7 KJV) The carnal mind is the old covenant mindset which was connected to the old man/the body of sin. That man is crucified, dead and buried with Christ. He was cut of by the circumcision of Christ and is not in you. But the thought-patterns from the old man is still there. The carnal minds way of thinking came originally from the three of the knowledge of good and evil. The main theme in this mind is: What must I do to get the good, and what must I do to stay away from the bad (evil)? Some people say that if you drive too fast your in the flesh (carnal mind). No, you are just being stupid, or in a hurry. But if you drive exactly at the speed limit because you think youll get blessed by God, then you are in the flesh. So if you are thinking: What can/must I do to receive more from God? What must I do to stay blessed by God? Whos going to bring Jesus down to heal me? Whos going to bring Jesus up (from the grave) to save me? Then you are thinking in your carnal mind. Neither you or the Holy Spirit can renew that carnal mind. It can not be subject to the law of God. ( The law of God is not the law of Moses )(Rom.8.7) The word glory in greek is the word doxa which means mindset, opinion. So when Adam lost the glory of God, he lost the mindset of God. He started thinking: What can I do to change the mind of God, to make Him bless me? We still do that in our carnal mind. It was the mind of Adam that needed to be changed. And how did God do that? Jesus took upon Himself ALL sins and ALL humans were in Him when He died on the Cross. ... if one died for all, then were all dead: (2 Corinthians 5:14 KJV) When He rose we got born from above as a new creation. This new creation has the mind of Christ, Gods mindset, Gods glory, the way God thinks of Himself and of humanity. The mind of Christ thinks like this: - I have all blessings. Its impossible for me to be more or less blessed. - My whole life is forgiven. To confess my sins is to say the same as God says about my sins: they are forgiven! (Confess: homologeo, homo = the same, logeo = to speak) - I cant be loved more by God no matter what I do. And so on... If we continues to listening to the old covenant mindset being preached we will still have a veil in front of our hearts. It is difficult to see with a veil. But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. (II Corinthians 3:14, 15 NKJV) We believers are still walking around saying: I need to do this, and stop doing this. I need to, I have to, I must, I, I , I, ... Now, whos talking? The carnal mind. Look closely at these verses: Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror(not a glass, like doing windowshopping) the glory (mindset) of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from ( Greek:apo, meaning away from) glory (the old covenant mindset, the carnal mind) to glory (Gods mindset, the mind of Christ), just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (II Corinthians 3:16-18 NKJV) So the renewing of the mind by the Spirit isnt a process in the carnal mind. It is to go away from the old covenant mindset unto Gods way of thinking in the mind of Christ.
