Ive gotten a bunch of questions about my condition and I have no WiFi in my hospital room, so I will address everyone all at once: Were you in an accident? What happened? Yes, Ive been in a fairly bad scooter wreck. It was really rainy and the roads were winding and had gradients, and at some point, my rear wheel lost all traction and I went sliding at about 50km/hr across a slippery wet road before my body made an abrupt contact with a tree, on the right anterior side, in between the pelvis and the ribcage, where all of the non-vital organs like the liver and kidneys are exposed. Are you going to be OK? Is your condition stable yes my condition is now stable, and yes Im going to be okay. An ultrasound and a CT scan revealed I have large amounts of blood pooling in my abdomen. Both my kidneys and my liver have lacerations and have been bleeding, which is why Im still in a hospital receiving IV coagulants and antibiotics. Initially, it was a lot worse. I couldnt take a full breath, I was coughing up blood, had blood in my urine, my liver was enlarged and producing enzymes at about 10X the normal rate (this was trauma related, but is similar to what happens in more extreme cases of hepatitis and liver disease), my hemoglobin was dropping (indicating heavy bleeding), and emergency surgery was highly probable. As of today, my hemoglobin is rising (one of the two necessary criteria to be released), almost any pain I had is gone, I can take a full breath, surgery is highly unlikely, and with any luck my liver will have calmed down a bit on enzyme production (the other requirement for me to be released) and I will be released in the next day or two. Does this mean your traveling is done? Yes and no. I already booked a plane flight to Vegas on Aug. 20th (one week from tomorrow) to go visit my grandfather for a week before I return to Austin on the 26th. Thanks everyone for your concern. I love you all and will talk to you soon. Jake
