Ive had a couple people PM me about Dim Sum as I posted a comment on it last night. DIM SUM CHALLENGE STAGE 1: Background: Ive never been a huge Mandarin Kitchen or Yangtzee fan. Dont get me wrong, Ive been to both and they both are established and have great food. Both are just a bit more hectic and pricey than I like. My family and I were supporters of My Le Hoa in Little Canada before the owners moved to Vegas. Then JunBo in Richfield before they closed and opened a new place in the suburbs. We eventually found ourselves at Wanderers Garden in Minnetonka. We had a couple great years of food and service there and even 2 excellent Chinese New Year dinners. Wanderers closed several months ago leaving us in a Dim Sum void of hopelessness. We stemmed our addiction with Yangtzee but it wasnt the same. About 3 weeks ago I got a message from the former former owners of Wanderers Garden saying they were in new digs and were going to start serving Dim Sum again. Their new location, Sesame Cafe, is actually closer to us than WG was (but not Yang) so we decided to make a trip out this weekend. I just wrote a review for Yelp and Ill paste it below. To sum it up lets just say it was very familiar and comforting with enough of a new spin to make it their own. The crew I was with was very satisfied and quite relieved to have found a new possible Dim Sum home. About 3 days after I got the message from Sesame Cafe I got an E-mail from the former Dim Sum chef of WG saying he and his wife (SUPER NICE LADY) had landed at a new spot in Eden Prairie called New Beijing and that I should stop in. It was actually a toss up today as to where to eat but Sesame won out because it was so much closer. This Dim Sum chef is GREAT and has server my family and friends some great meals. I owe him the trip out so the next stage of the DIM SUM CHALLENGE will be to head out his way next weekend. I love Dim Sum and feel fortunate that Ive been able to stay in contact with so many great restauranteurs and chefs. Ill write an after action report of the location in Eden Prairie as soon as I can. What is your favorite place to go have Dim Sum and what is your favorite dish? If you have specific questions about Sesame Cafe please ask, my dining buddies have varied tastes so we tried a lot of different things. * Also quite affordable. 6 (7 but two people ate lightly so we counted them as one) of us ate for $144 and some change, so around $24 a head which is average.
