Ive had an evening of music technology, my new mixing desk works beautifully, taking audio input into the iPad - its beautifully silent and works really well. And I took a moment to record a short video of my gittern - Ive been making threats to post one for ages. I am playing a French tune, dating to about 1250 - its an estampie called La Seconde Estampie Royal And estampie is a sort of musical form with strict rules - its also a medieval dance form, and some of the tunes are quite wild - this one is more thoughtful and reflective in mood. No steps have come down to us across the centuries, so there are no surviving dances that can be danced, just some great tunes. This is one of the easier ones, there are some fiendish tunes from Italy, dating to about 1350 - they do my head in, big time.
