Ive had an interesting month or two, to say the least! As always, I will expect to lose a Facebook friend or two with this post. Mostly people that wouldnt recognize me or speak if we passed each other in a store. Thats Facebook and its attempt to desensitize each of us, while monitoring every stroke of our keyboard. I suppose that if I have a question or two, I should use said Facebook to address same. Question one: Why do people read so many books about the Book? Why not just read the Book? (Bible) Why do the smiley Christians give more credence to a book by Joel Osteen than they do a Book inspired by the Holy Spirit? I use to think that the great whore described in the Book of Revelation was some outside influence or agenda that I wasnt smart enough to understand. From everything that I see from the smiley Christians, it very well may be those who subscribe to the Joel Osteens of the world. I mentioned in a previous post: Hes a great motivational speaker....but a horrible preacher. The fish symbol on the front of many businesses may simply be a marketing gimmick. I would never attempt to judge someone who claims a genuine salvation because of a loving and forgiving God. Thats not my purpose here. Pulpits across America are filled with Joel Osteens Thank God, not all of them. Many smiley Christians have no idea why they believe what they believe. If I were lost and on my way to hell right this minute, I dare say, very few of these folks could tell me what to do to accept Christ as my Savior, nor could most of the Joel Osteen brand ministers that have turned many churches into simple businesses. Question two: Let me preface this question with this statement. A few years ago, I visited several churches in Amarillo. I simply wanted to know what they were doing to further the Great Commission described in Matthew 28. Out of probably 10 churches that I visited in a three month period, not one Pastor told me, or anyone else, how to go Heaven when they die. Grace Church actually was having a Biker Sunday the Sunday morning that I visited. The pastor got up and told each of us how important that it is to tithe and pay our taxes. He had missed the perfect opportunity to further the cause of Christ with probably 300 people in attendance. So, my second question: What or who will destroy this process that we call the Christian Church? Will it be sharia law and the Islamic influences? Will it be the government with its far reaching tentacles? What or who is the great whore? I submit that its going to be the smiley Christians and the Joel Osteens. Those folks, good intentioned people, that simply want to do the right things and go to a church with their families.....but, have no idea why they believe what they believe. Why do so many people read books about the Book instead of just reading the Book?
