Ive heard it said that it is difficult to play the hero in the movies. It takes a different kind of range and prowess to be on par with the actor playing the villain. Kind of like how Daniel Craig managed to prevent Javier Bardem from complete stealing Skyfall from him. Or how Tyler Posey dug in deep with his heroic werewolf Scott McCall when Dylan OBrien had all but taken the spotlight with his evil Nogitsune in Teen Wolf. In the same vein, thats how John Cena was in his Wrestlemania match with Bray Wyatt. He refuses to simply hand over the show and continues to play the role of the hero. Albeit, one that is not well-loved by purists or almost every fan but still the clear-cut hero. Cant imagine how tough it must be for him to play that role. Respect just went up a few more notches.
