Ive just had the wonderful experience of reuniting a cat whose missing posters have been all over the neighborhood with her humans. With both Gigi and OMalley in plain sight upstairs, I heard a cat crying pitifully in the basement. When I looked, there was a tortoiseshell kitty halfway up the steps, still crying, with her head hidden by a step. Gigi and OMalley got down there while I checked to see how the cat had gotten in. Turns out theres a pane missing from one of the windows, which are high up on the wall. I have a call in for a handyman to come and see it tomorrow. Anyway, I remembered the posters, so I hurried to get the number off it. Rob and Anita, the owners, came at once, They only live about a block away and we realized we know each other by sight. We all went down into the basement, where poor Tortie -- thats her name -- was hiding in an empty cat food sack. As soon as they called her, she started crying again, but was too scared to come out. Rob looked inside with a flashlight and said, its her! So Tortie is being walked home in one of my carriers, still in the bag because we didnt want her to get scared and run away if they tried to take her out. OF course they thanked me very gratefully. I told them Im a cat person and if it hadnt been their cat, I might have ended up adopting her. Besides, I know what its like to have a cat missing. Tortie has been gone since April 8th. Im wondering if shes been hanging around here all along and thats the sound I thought was a racoon or even Lowmans ghost. Theres no telling how long that window panes been out. So, Torties back where she belongs, and all I have to do is get the window fixed.
