Ive never liked Apple as a company. If tech companies were nations in history, Apple is Germany in the late 1930s. Period. Sure the streets are clean and pretty, and the trains run on time. However, everything is command and control from on high. Everything is homogenized. Freedom? Its not happening. Being a Libertarian, the wild west of Googles Android has been my choice for at least the past 5 years. Sure, with freedom and choice comes risk and responsibility. Well, even though living on the frontier appeals to me, and I can survive without getting scalped by the natives, my family members who followed me havent fared as well. Junk can slip into your Android tablet just like in Windows. Annoying popup ads that you cant get rid of without doing a factory reset. Earlier this year, I followed the advice of a security conscience buddy, and we got an evil iPad mini. Why move to Munich? Time. I dont have the time to protect my family from the evil raiders that are lurking everywhere. I cant defend them. And you can walk down the streets of Munich in 1938 and you dont get mugged, and it doesnt smell like trash with flies flying around. Steve Gibson did a couple of podcasts on the architecture of iOS, and Apple did it right. Malware is not getting in unless you deliberately root your system. iOS is basically bullet proof. It turns out the Jody loves the iPad. Van saved up his chore money and got an iPad mini shortly after, and he loves it. By the way, the entry level iPad mini can be had for about $275 at Target if you wait for a sale and use your red card for 5%. Jodys Android phone is ready for replacement, and so shes going to get an evil iPhone. What can I say? Apple provides a consistent, quality experience without risk of getting mugged. You have to be pragmatic.
