Ive not said anything about the Robin Williams situation but this is a post from Matt Hellens of NY - this guy talks a lot of sense, and for me this is bang on the money regarding Robin Williams and people unfortunate enough to be in a similar situation; Ive seen a fair few people post anti-suicide statuses since Robin Williams is believed to have killed himself. And not the good kind, the blame kind. People need to realise that someone who is psychotically depressed does not kill themselves on a whim or through some abstract conviction that lifes negatives suddenly outweigh its positives. They do not kill themselves out of fear and nor do they kill themselves because death suddenly seems appealing. They kill themselves in the same way that a person trapped in a burning high-rise building with no chance of escape will often eventually jump out of the window. We shouldnt blame, we havent felt the flames.
