Ive noticed a lot of the dogs that need to be rescued look like Pit Bulls. I think this is because they are one of the recent additions to the dangerous breed list a lot of insurance companies have. Landlords dont want you to have one because they cant get liability insurance or it will cost a lot more. Homeowners insurance costs more also. I think this is one of the reasons you see a lot of them in shelters. A renter gets one and then the landlord says get rid of them or move out. Something needs to be done about the liability that landlords have. Why should a landlord be responsible for the renters dog? Isnt that the renters responsibility? What is the difference between the renter and a homeowner? I could understand it in an apartment complex where close contact is more likely, but in single family dwellings? Something needs to be done limiting the liability of landlords. Right now a landlord is not liable for illegal activity UNLESS he knows about it. If a dog were not proven to be dangerous then why should he be liable? I dont care that the deep pockets are the landlord. The landlord didnt raise the dog. Didnt train the dog. Jail the renter and make them pay.
