Ive owned racehorses for six years and I have watched the Eclipse - TopicsExpress

Ive owned racehorses for six years and I have watched the Eclipse Awards for six years. In the six years, Ive learned that I could have an extraordinary horse and never see anyone on my team on the Eclipse Ballot. Because as a small owner, I wouldnt own much beyond that extraordinary horse. And, I would be extraordinarily happy to own that colt or filly. And, because I prefer hands-on trainers from smaller barns, my trainer wouldnt be on the ballot. And, Im sure my trainer would be just as proud of their training job on that horse. Further, my horse wouldnt need an award to show their achievements because they would have proven themselves on the track. And, theyd be just as excited in the winners circle without a trophy. The elitism of the Eclipse Awards has always gotten under my skin. And, although Ill never have to worry about winning an Eclipse with my small-time horses, I also am done paying attention to which millionaire operation wins with their millionaire trainer. There are millions of other things Id rather care about these days. Steve Haskin nails it in his recent article about California Chrome. cs.bloodhorse/blogs/horse-racing-steve-haskin/archive/2015/01/07/chrome-team-shut-out.aspx
