Ive read this before, and I liked it then. I like how this teacher looks this closely at her classs emotional state each week. That shows true commitment to the whole student, not just a score. Reading the article this time, what struck me was the phrase sacred trust and responsibility. Yes, thats it! The precise wording for how most teachers view their calling. I wish I could say all, but we all know that there are people in every profession who are only in it for paycheck. Feeling that sacred trust and responsibility is what pushes me when I feel like changing gears in my professional life, and yes, that happens. Then I realize that I cant imagine leaving those little hearts and minds in the hands of someone else, as capable as another teacher may be! Showing my students more about life, compassion, and living with other people is my privilege. Preparing them for life in the world outside the 4 walls of my classroom is what its all about. Its my responsibility to do whats best for the students for the rest of their lives, not just for the next high stakes test. Its an honor to have that calling and to know I an trusted with that sacred responsibility!
