Ive received a bit of criticism for a TechStuff episode I did about Anita Sarkeesian. I expected that. And its not like I received a lot of it and certainly none of it was violent or particularly rude (unlike what Im seeing with criticism directed at women in tech journalism). But the messages, even when masked with what seems like polite discourse, depress me. Feminism isnt anti-male (at least, the feminism Ive encountered isnt). A woman saying Hey, I want to talk about issues that negatively impact women means just that. It does NOT mean Hey, women are negatively impacted and men have no problems whatsoever. Very often, I see the male response to a feminist message as being Hey, Ive got problems too! Of course you do. No one was saying otherwise. To suggest such a thing was even implied is a straw man argument. Turning a feminist message into a blanket statement that its not trying to be is counterproductive.
