Ive said it before, and now I say it again: no-one will ever hit me with belts. Some schools do this. Some of yall like this little ritual. I do not. We all approach the art differently. The way I approach it is... to not whip people with belts. I aint doing this for anybody. Period. I dont care if its a Gracie, a Machado, or Bruce Lee himself. Is it a big deal? Maybe. Maybe not... I have blood wings and blood rank blood combat patches and all that mess from the military. I thought it was silly then, and I think its silly now. When I trained, many years ago, in karate, and jeet kune do, and catch wrestling, and boxing, and several other arts, no-one ever dreamed of whipping someone with belts.... Im trying to imagine my crusty old Filipino escrima instructor watching crap like this... hell no. When I was belt-promoted in old school karate, it was painful, sure. Because I had to kumite with a half-dozen guys, all superior in skill to me. My legs were kicked silly, my ribs were aching, and I had a black eye and some busted lips. Ill take bruises, sure. And even a beating. Ive been choked out many, many times. But nobody, I repeat: nobody is going to whip me with belts. Maybe Im overreacting. Oh well. I have earned that right, believe me.
