Ive spent most of the day in Bradford today. Not going everyday, - TopicsExpress

Ive spent most of the day in Bradford today. Not going everyday, which thankfully I no longer do, I forget how unremittingly depressing and run down the centre of the city is. There was the grandiose entrance to a now boarded up Victorian office block that is now obviously home to some homeless person. There was a brawl between half a dozen of Bradfords yoof, that attracted a small, interested audience. But most passers by passed by with barely a look. No police around of course. Theres the decorated entrance to the newly rediscovered Sunbridge Wells, Marilyn - well ok I can just about live with but the octopus? Sunbridge Wells was an underground access tunnel to, I guess, a long gone grand hotel. So supplies and staff could get in without being seen. The plan is to use it for a mini Camden-style market. But if this was in any other city thered be an über trendy entrance put on the front of it. Instead, Bradford decides on Marilyn and an octopus. Great! I escaped town to have a look at Bolling Hall Museum. After more than 25 years working in Bradford it was a matter of some embarrassment that Id never been. (Mind you Ive never been to Chatsworth either and thats only about an hour down the motorway, or Nostell Priory which is 20 mins away!) Anyway... Bolling Hall Museum was shut. Bolling park was a nice bit of green space relief tho. Save for the frequent posies of Bradford yoof, who I couldnt help but think knew Hes not from round here. I made my excuses and left.
