Ive started a rewatch of all the Nightmare On Elm Street films and - TopicsExpress

Ive started a rewatch of all the Nightmare On Elm Street films and today finished up the much-maligned Part 2: Freddys Revenge. I was about 14 when it came out, so completely missed all the gay subtext (or just text as theres nothing sub about it!), but that was my revelation the first time I rewatched it. This time, its just what a good movie and solid entry in the NOES canon it is. Sure, they throw the whole dream demon thing out the window in favour of a more possession angle, but its only breaking the rules of what we see Freddy as in context of the later films. Up until then, Krueger hadnt been so defined and had been dragged into the real world already, so its not too big a leap that hed try and manifest in different ways. Also, its before they turned him into a wisecracking goon, so the rate times we see him, its that same malevolent monster we saw in the original. The pool scene, Gradys murder and the finale are all brilliantly done and much more effective than the wacky comedy that would become the norm. I used to think it was awful, but Id definitely place it third behind 1 and 3 now. Anyone else agree, or am I on my own with this one? Chris? :)
