Ive wanted to write this for awhile, but travel and #ONA14 kept me from it. But now, theres time. This past year has been super crazy. I had a great new job, then I got laid off and have been freelance crazy until I landed this amazing new gig at First Look. Ive been, lets be honest, insane and depressed and tired. But now that I think things have settled, I want to specifically thank some people for things. Doug Mitchell, Robert Hernandez and David Cohn for being my mentors and friends, panic list calls and board of directors. Your advice, your patience and your friendship through this all really got me through. Youve walked me off so many cliffs and gotten me through multiple career existential crises. Julie Westfall and Alex Schaffert for being two women who were co-workers and bosses that taught me something about being a lady in power. Youve both taught me something about negotiation and how to navigate the journalism world. Justin Larsen for being the best boyfriend I could ask for. You made me put my phone away, take a walk and remember that there is often more to journalism. Melissa Geisler and Angela Kim for being my two LA gals that would never miss out on a night of mussels or a glass of wine to take my mind off the anxiety. Everyone involved with ONA and AAJA. These communities have helped me find jobs and meet people I never would have dreamed of (including recently Cookie Monster). The Thunderdome crew for being a family of sorts. We were friends as much as co-workers and I am excited to work with yall again. Because were young and amazing and itll happen. Everyone, I mean everyone who emailed me or IMed or texted to ask how it was going or sent me a job. Even if they didnt pan out or I didnt respond, often those made the difference between a good and a bad day. These are people in my life who I have so much gratitude for and who I love dearly. I have probably forgotten names of others, but you know who you are.
