Ive yet to share with you my feelings about American composers. Today I shall only refer to two... I wandered into a CD Trader store today hoping to find a cd of the soundtrack to the film LINCOLN.In my heart I know that film and every component of it is a masterpiece. I was lucky enough to find the soundtrack composed so magnificently by John Williams, played so rapturously by the Chicago Symphony.(Smart choice as Abe was from Illinois). Its so beautiful, so elegantly/folksy so musically representative of war, peace, triumph and surrender.. The piano section is purest Lincoln,a simple right hand melody while the left hand harmonically representing the almost mystic reasoning Lincoln embodied. Then I was thinking about George Gershwin, while his Rhapsody in Blue and An American In Paris may be more well known...for me it is his Concerto In F which brings an ache to my heart as it is in that composition I can hear the breadth and depth of his potential that was gone, gone too soon. A musical day in my car doing chores.M
