I’d like to invite you, your department and your students to an (Inter) National conversation about theatre and the performing arts taking place at the West Yorkshire Playhouse on January 9th & 10th. 2015 marks the 10th birthday of Improbables Devoted and Disgruntled programme of Open Space events, and were celebrating by holding two days of action, dreams, ideas, inspiration and connection, facilitated by Improbables Artistic Directors, Phelim McDermott & Lee Simpson. Whether youre devoted to, or disgruntled by, making and experiencing live performance, youre invited to join us. If youre from back-stage or on-stage, if youre the audience, the makers, the critics, the lovers or the fighters; all are welcome. Open Space is a way of working together in groups of any size, where the participants set the agenda and the status quo gets reinvented. Nothing is censored, anything is possible, and every voice can be heard. You get to do the work you need to do, in the way you want to do it, and youll be connecting to a decade of networks, communities and vibrant, noisy, brilliant theatre-making history while youre at it. Students are a vital part of these conversations as they are the practitioners of tomorrow, plus they often have the most interesting things to say! If you or any of your colleagues or students would like to write an invitation introducing a topic they would like to discuss, this is easy to do by creating an account on the D&D website and writing an invite to D&DNorth. For some more information on D&D here’s a really great video about the event: https://vimeo/75226991 And for some more information on the Open Space format so you can understand how the day will be run have a look here:devotedanddisgruntled/about/ You can simply book your places for the event here: wyp.org.uk/whats-on/2015/devoted-disgruntled-north/ Furthermore I was wondering if any of your students would be interested in volunteering on the day. The event is running 10am - 6pm on the 9th and 10th of January and we would ask volunteers to arrive at 9 for a briefing and stay until around until 6.30 to help with clearing up. You will be assisting with the running of the day and providing information and support for attendees but will still be able to actively involve yourself in the discussions that go on. We are also looking for some people to be around to lend a hand from 2pm on Thursday 8th January to help set up. Could you possibly pass this information on to your students? Please get in touch if you would like any more information. Hope to see you there, Anna Dominian
