I’m definitely getting the impression that it’s at least a few of the murdered French cartoonists who are sending recent time signals to video clips – a serious one (Fox News) and a humorous one (Stephen Colbert), so far – and also sending signals to some quotes from comic-book characters, such as ‘Captain America’. After all, wouldn’t it be cartoonists who would have the expertise to find relevant cartoons (or humorous videos) and then send time signals to them? Some background information: The Welsh song I just posted about is from a compilation CD called ‘The Deep End’ that was included with some British music magazine (I don’t remember which one; maybe NME, which I think stands for New Musical Express) about 15 years ago. When listening again today and yesterday to the rest of the songs on ‘The Deep End’ CD, I was struck by how some of them certainly seem relevant to the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists. Maybe that’s why I was drawn to picking out and re-listening to that particular CD, among all the old CDs I have. The three that seem relevant to the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists: ‘The Sound of Fear’, Eels ‘Everybody’s Stalking’, Badly Drawn Boy ‘A Tribute To’, The For Carnation lyric excerpts from ‘The Sound of Fear’: “Some people like to call me Chuck Its Charles and you are s*** outta luck” Interesting. I read on Wikipedia that the original version of Charlie Hebdo (‘Hara-Kiri’) was banned for mocking the death of former French President Charles de Gaulle. And then more: “You might remember me as The one who let you down But never made another Sound of fear” “The sound of fear I cant hear The sound of fear.” Then there’s Badly Drawn Boy, ‘Everybody’s Stalking’ - more for the song title and band name, not really the lyrics. In this context, I take the band name to be symbolic of caricatures in general (just in relation to the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists) – certainly not to any specific person or religious figure such as Mohammad. And not literally “badly drawn”, because it certainly takes skill to draw interesting caricatures. Some lyrics from ‘A Tribute To’, by The For Carnation: “Unreturned, the letters I sent My only hope to rest the tears When night comes I will learn while they sleep To satisfy their failures.” In this context, I think the last line means “to help them with their failures” (in terms of widespread timidity regarding freedom of speech and expression, for example). As for “I will learn while they sleep”, that could mean them helping watch over everyone and finding relevant video clips and/or comic-book images to send; these may serve as reminders, guidelines, or warnings. Of course, these individuals could also be trying to communicate with their loved ones and hoping that their messages are being received and understood. https://youtube/watch?v=-Eygg7h9dhs
