I’ve been thinking tonight about the strange things that insecurity causes people to do and it made me think of a woman I went out with about two years ago. We had talked for a couple of weeks before we met in Tuscaloosa at a nice restaurant for a first date. She seemed miffed as the evening went on, but I couldn’t figure out what was going on. By the time I got home, I had an email from her — complaining that I had been too nice to the attractive female server we had at the restaurant. As you might imagine, that was enough for me to run very far away from her. If she doesn’t like me being nice to strangers — men or women — she would never fit into my life. It’s just sad that she was so insecure that she was threatened by me treating a server well. It seems as though insecurity makes us act in ways that cause us to lose what we want at times.
